Xbox live - an entertainment hub

The next generation of XBox will feature Kinect Avatars that will help users have an online avatar that can network socially with other users. The screen capture shows the avatars discussing an ESPN game streamed live via Xbox. MicroSoft CEO Steve Ballmer has said the game console has graduated to become an "entertainment hub" that delivers movies and music and allows social networking.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, in his keynote address at the CES 2011, refers to the Xbox as an “entertainment hub”: something for the entire family and not just geeky adolescents who refuse to grow up. The new Xbox live experience merges the game console, the innovative Kinect controller and improved connectivity, to make it a social networking, movies and music streaming, all-in-one monster device.

While one used to associate Xbox, Zune or PlayStation with games and music, they are no longer just that. We now get dedicated Xbox Live games for Windows mobile. Or PlayStation-branded games Apps for mobile phones. Zune brings its extensive music catalogue — originally considered an Apple music store competitor — to all of Microsoft's devices — their Xbox and their Windows 7 phone.
